- About GLAD
New England’s leading legal rights organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on
sexual orientation, HIV status and gender identity and expression.
Research shows that the more people know their LGBT and HIV+ family, friends, and neighbors, the more likely they are to support our rights and help us work toward full equality.
We have come far in our fight for equal justice under law. But we still must work to educate our communities about the reality of LGBT people’s lives.
You don't have to be a rock star or a rocket scientist for your story to be important. If you work, stay at home, go to school, go to church, baby-sit your grandchildren, clip coupons, save to send the kids to college or for your retirement, we want to hear from you! We welcome stories from family, friends, and other straight allies, too.
Choose your location and answer a few questions so we can get to know you better:
For Joel and Tracy, marriage means going about the business of day-to-day life together – they made their weekly trip to Costco after their wedding – and giving back to their community in Norfolk, which has been very supportive of the couple. The federal government, unfortunately, is not as supportive of Joel and Tracy’s marriage as their community. DOMA prevents them from filing their federal taxes jointly, so they paid an extra $12,000 in taxes last year alone. The tax bill was a disturbing reminder of the inequality to which Joel and Tracy are subject despite their legal marriage.
